So you want to rent your boat on the MatesBoat™ platform…….Awesome. Lets see how post a listing here;
Lets take a quick look at what type of listing you are considering, there are 2 types of listings;
1. BareBoat Rental:-
To put it simply Bareboat Rental is hiring or renting a boat without a Master. The hirer is the Master and takes responsibility for the boat and their passengers. This allows the hirer has more freedom to navigate the waters and is expected to have the necessary boat handling skills, Marine Licence and qualifications to operate it. As the owner of this vessel you have some obligations and responsibilities to the hirer as follows;
- Boat must have Domestic Commercial Vessel (DCV) registration
- Must have the required safety equipment on board as required by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) (class 2, 3 & 4)
- Take out insurance for commercial activities (tell them we sent you!)
- Obtain a Certificate of Operation issued by AMSA
- Must have a Safety Management System (SMS) document up to date and onboard the boat
- Provide an induction to the hirer on the operation of the boat and safety equipment on board
2. Charter Service:-
A charter service is operated by the Owner/Master or their crew. The Master is in control of the boat and the passengers. As an Owner/Master of the vessel you must ensure you comply with all the above requirements and additional must have a Certificate of Competency (COC) issued by AMSA. The COC must be relevant to the area you are operating in. i.e if operating in inland waters, lakes, rivers etc then at a minimum you require is a Coxswain NC3 qualification.
Now that we have decided on the type of listing and you know what is required you will need to “Post” a listing:-
- Create an account with MatesBoat™
- Use the “Contact Us” button in the menu at the top of the page and send a message requesting “Posting Rights”
- Admin will then check and approve “Posting Rights”
- Once you have “Posting Rights” you can create your listing!
- Create a cool and noticeable “Listing Title”
- Write your “Description” – N.B as this is the first iteration of our platform ….. don’t worry about formatting (i.e fonts etc) we will sort this in the code
- Complete each listing box as required
- Use good quality images, landscape format works best
- Important !! Hit the “Post Listing” button directly under the images… don’t hit the “+Post a new listing” button at the top right of the page as you will probably get angry because you will need to start again 🙁
- Once you hit “Post Listing” an email is sent to admin advising of the new listing for approval
- Add your Availability via the calendar
- Once approved you need to create an account with “Stripe” via the MatesBoat™ platform to allow customers to purchase your listing
You can update your listing at anytime however the changes will need to be approved by admin. This is to ensure the integrity and to uphold our high standards. Any issues let me know!
