1. What is a master?

A master is the person in charge of the commercial vessel.

2. What is the cost to list my boat?

You can list your boat for free!

3. How much should I charge to charter my boat?

In working out how much you should charge to charter your boat you should take into
account the type and size of the boat, fuel, your time, the type of adventure you are
undertaking, items included (i.e fishing gear, water sport activities etc), boat
maintenance, storage etc.

4. Do I need an ABN?

5. What is the commission break down?

It is Free to List and Free To Browse listings.   You only pay if a transaction takes place as follows;

Mates pay 0%


Masters (Chartered) pay 12%


Owners (BareBoat) pay 12%

6. Where do I get my Coxswain NC 3 (formerly Ex38) or Coxswain NC1 certification?

8. How many passengers can I take out?

The maximum number of passengers you can take is limited by Ex02 and is set at 4
Pax. If you have a full survey for your vessel this will be limited by the Certificate of
Operation issued by the AMSA

9. How much money could I earn?

Masters/Owners can earn in excess of $20,000 per year.

10. Can I take international tourists boating?

YES! This market is huge and waiting for you to take tourists on a water adventure
with local Aussie knowledge.

A hire and drive vessel means a vessel (other than a recreational vessel) that is intended to be let for hire and includes vessels hired on a trailer and operated away from the place of hire, including those only capable of a speed less than 10 knots.

The Marine Safety Act requires all masters to hold a marine licence (and any relevant endorsement) to operate a hire and drive vessel capable of a speed greater than 10 knots (18km/h).

11. Do I have to take every booking?

No. Its is your choice if you want to take the charter/rental.

12. What happens if there is bad weather?

In case of inclement whether or other unforeseen reason a charter or bareboat rental cannot proceed you need to check each listing for their terms and conditions.

13. How do I find a Master Mate to operate my boat?

Scroll through the Master Mates Program page and find a suitably qualified and
experienced Master to operate your boat. Make contact and ensure they are the right
fit for you and your vessel.

14. What is Bareboat hire?

Bareboat hire also known as Hire & Drive is where the renter hires a vessel from you
without a Master. The owner delivers the boat to a pre-arranged location and the Mates
take the boat out on their own water adventures.
