1. What is a Master Mate?

A Master Mate is a suitably qualified Master capable of taking paying Mates on water adventures. They general do not own their boat and are introduced to owners whom do not have the Master qualifications. Owners are able to select Master Mates from the platform and form a relationship with them allowing them to take their boat out on their behalf.

2. What can I do if I already have a Coxswain NC 3 (Formerly Ex38) or Coxswain NC1 certification?

Become a Master Mate! List your services on the Master Mates page and wait to be contacted by owners wanting a suitably qualified Master to take paying passengers on their boats.

 

Get your own boat DCV registered under Ex02 and start taking paying passengers on your vessel!

3. How do I become “Mates” with a Master?

Sign up and list your qualifications, location, area of expertise, and a summary of your experience. Masters looking for a Master Mate can then view your listing and make contact!

4. How much should I expect to earn?

Being a Master Mate could earn you between $50 and $200 per hour.

5. How much do I pay MatesBoat™?

It’s free to list your services on MatesBoat™. The owners pay 12% and passengers do not pay a fee. You will need to negotiate your fee directly with your Owner.  See our Fees and Masters Protection Information here
